2001 Season:

Sunday  09-02-2001 Enduro

An awesome day for racing, but the cards had already been dealt.  Another unavoidable multi-car incident smashed up the front end.  The outcome left us hooked on another car, bumper to bumper, and 10 or so laps to free us up.  Overheated, kept on going until the tranny couldn't take it anymore at lap 60.  I fitting conclusion to our Enduro Season.  Maybe one day we'll give it a shot again.

Sunday  08-22-2001 Enduro

A wet day for racing.  Car was setup excellent, but the rainy weather sent several cars in front of us way too many times.  When the driver on the outside wall made a beeline for the infield, I Clipped his front end doing the damage.  Ended up with a flat tire on the lead lap at lap 56.  Fan was butt up against the radiator, did overheat, but kept running great.

Sunday  07-22-2001 Enduro

Excellent racing by many drivers, kept us racing clean for a long time, although several incidents did leave some disabled cars on the track.  Lap 60 or thereabouts, almost hitting the wall, but hit another disabled car. because another disabled car was leaking anti-freeze all over in turn 3.  The results of the wreck was a bent tie rod, and a brake pedal that when to the floor.  I must have blown the rear brake cylinder as flames were coming out the back tires.  Another few laps at 5 mph until I went to the infield because of poor handling & just getting in the way of others.

Sunday  06-24-2001 Enduro

Not a good day for us this time out.  Lap 2, was taken for a spin on turn 2, recovered and was running fine until lap 20.  As we came off turn  4, a disabled car against the wall was the target for the driver I was following.  He must have misjudged the pass and clipped the stopped car coming to a complete halt.  I too, who was on his tail, slammed hard into him and was hit from behind in the chain reaction.  The whole front of the hood, radiator, Fan, Shroud, etc. all smashed beyond recognition.  A lot of work to do to fix her up for the next race. damage20010013.jpg (81830 bytes) damage20010016.jpg (107258 bytes)

Sunday  05-27-2001 Enduro

Due to the heavy rains from Thursday through Saturday, Riverhead cancelled the entire weekend of events for the Memorial Day weekend and postponed them to June 3rd.  The team had already made previous commitments (Dover-DE NASCAR Winston Cup Racing) on that date and was unable to race.  Next Race will be June 24th.

Sunday  04-22-2001 Enduro

Squid started in the 8th position of the 1st Enduro in the #8 Lincoln Mark V.  This race was much better than previous races.  At around lap 50 the Carburetor started to bog down coming out of turns 2 and 4 , stalling the engine.  After several stalls, the engine compartment temperature was just too hot, and the starter wouldn't engage.  A Yellow flag needed to make adjustments.  Unfortunately, the Red, then Yellow  flag did come out, but they could not open the pit lane gate.  I restarted the car and pulled into the infield to wait out the remaining 40 laps.

2000 Season:

Sunday  09-03-2000 Enduro

Squid started in the 81st position of the 1st Enduro in the #81 Lincoln Mark V.  Plagued by another Radiator problem, only completed 8 Laps before overheating.  Joe, a 3-core this time, please!

Sunday  08-13-2000 Enduro

Squid started in the 15th position of the 1st Enduro in the #15 Lincoln Mark V.  Was running in 3rd at the red flag at lap 12, but as I sat waiting to restart, the car overheated again.  Due to a heavy hit a few laps earlier, the side of the radiator split open a little.  One more time in the garage for a new radiator.

Sunday  07-23-2000 Enduro

Squid started in the 21st position of the 1st Enduro in the #21 Lincoln Mark V.  got a black flag at around lap 20 for dragging the rear bumper, but before I could pull to  infield, a red flag came out.  Once we went back to yellow, I pulled in the pits and the pit crew went to work and made back on the track.  During the 2nd red flag of the day around lap 34, what we thought was the water pump dumped all the water in the radiator ending our day, ended up being the lower radiator hose.  Minor work to be done for the next race - New hose & weld rear bumper.

Saturday  06-17-2000 Enduro

Squid started in the 24th position of the 1st Enduro in the #24 Lincoln Mark V.  6 Laps into the race, suffered a blown tire from a wreck which the car was sideways.  A Red Flag at around lap 65 enabled us to change the tire and get back on the track for the final laps.  About ready to overheat, I pulled it in to the infield with about 5 laps to go.  Didn't want to kill the engine.  Need to replace the radiator to keep this overheating under control.

Sunday 05-28-2000 Enduro

Squid debuted the #56 Lincoln Mark V for the 1st time this season in the 2nd full size Enduro.  At the 2nd Red Flag, was running in 6th place.  Several major wrecks, spinouts and backwards driving in the remainder of the race resulted in a guestimated 12th place finish completing the race with minor work to be done for the next race.

1999 Season:

Saturday Night 09-25-1999 Invitational Enduro

Joey "WOW" completed 74 of an 86 lap race in Joe P.'s #37 Buick Regal.  The race was red-flagged at lap 84 for an injured driver, and subsequently ended on 2 yellow flag laps on lap 86 due to one hour time limit of race.  Joey raced again in the last 8-cyl Enduro as #38 and completed 44 of 50 Laps.

Sunday 09-05-1999 Enduro

Squid completed 21 of the 100 lap race in his #47 Olds Cutlass.  Loosing the radiator fan at around lap 8, Squid was black flagged to the pits for repairs.  Once the repairs were complete, Squid got back in the race at the next red flag which was about lap 64.  At around lap 77, the car was loosing power.  Already too much antifreeze was lost and the engine called it quits.  Squid parked in the infield completing 21 laps, retiring the Olds Cutlass.

Joe P. completed 12 of the 100 lap race in his #31 Buick Regal.  At around the 1st red flag of the race (lap 8, when Squid left the track) going back to green, Joe P. transmission shifter failed and was out of the race for the remainder.

Sunday 08-15-1999 Enduro

Squid completed 43 of the 100 lap race in his #29 Olds Cutlass.  Loosing a bumper at around lap 5, Squid was black flagged to the infield for repairs.  Once the bumper was removed, Squid got back in the race.  At around lap 30, the car was loosing power.  Squid parked in the infield and restarted it, burning up whatever was in the carburetor.  By lap 43 though, it happened again and this time the car could not restart.  A new carburetor will be installed for the next race to fix that problem.

Joe P. did not race this day.  It started out being a bad day for racing, a heavy mist/drizzle was lingering on for several hours before the race.  Up until 1pm, we were figuring they would call the race due to the rain.  At 1:15 however, they announced they would start the day with the 8cyl enduros.  Joe P. had already sent his sons home and did not want to wreck the car this time out because of the slick track, and his sons no longer there.

Sunday 07-18-1999 Enduro

Joe P. completed 6 of the 100 lap race in his #14 Buick Regal.  120 degree temperatures in the car on the track for 15 minutes prior to the start of the race didn't help.  At lap 6, Joe P. took a hit from behind, stalling the engine.  Unable to restart it because the starter wouldn't engage due to the days high temperatures.   When the race completed, and after cooling down from sitting on the track, the #14 started right up and will have to try again next month after a few adjustments.

Squid also took part in the spectator drag session with the #3 Jeep.  Racing against a Mustang, from the start, the girl in the mustang stalled the car and the #3 was midway through turn 1-2 when I figured I didn't have to go crazy trying to win this thing.   So I took it easy and slow which was a mistake as I noticed the Mustang approaching quickly in the rearview mirror.  Did what I could do to still win, but at that point it was too late and lost by about 2 car lengths.

Sunday 06-27-1999 Enduro

Squid completed 90 of the 100 lap race in his #15 Pontiac Station Wagon to a 12th place finish against 107+ other cars in the 1st 8-Cylinder Enduro race, only to park in the pits when the engine caught fire and ending the career of the #15 Car.

Among the rest of the Team are Chief Mechanic "Joe P." Piersa and Hernan "Nando" Ospina. The Cheering section for the day were Squid's parents Rose & Jack, his sister Regina, her husband Ed & his son Kevin, friends and followers: Jeff, Pete, Patty and Jake.

Sunday 05-30-1999 Enduro

Squid completed 66 of the 100 lap race in his #79 Pontiac Station Wagon against 100 other cars in the 1st 8-Cylinder Enduro race.  An early hit from behind locked up the tranny at or around lap 12 and took the #79 out of the race.   By lap 20 however, another hit freed up the tranny and #79 resumed the race to complete a total of 66 laps before getting hit again which took out the battery.  The car was salvaged and made ready for the next race.

Among the rest of the Team are Chief Mechanic "Joe P." Piersa and Hernan "Nando" Ospina. The Cheering section for the day were Squid's sisters Jacqueline & Jeanette, brother-in law Ed & his son Kevin, friends and followers Otto.

1998 Season:

Sunday 09-06-1998 Enduro

Squid completed 88 of the 100 lap race in his #61 Pontiac Grandville against 100 other cars in the 1st 8-Cylinder Enduro race.  12 laps to go when the #61 was black flagged from the race for a flat tire finishing in an estimated 18th place.  The car was donated to another Enduro driver because of too much damage to be towed home with a tow bar.
